Week 17 Wrapup

Week 17 Wrapup

Can anyone stop Finley in the red zone?

While they played an uncaring Giants team, the Vikings looked sharp. They will be really tough to beat at home. And Green Bay rolled over Arizona as they sat most of their starters. I think it was a good move by both teams, the Cardinals have playoff experience on their roster while the Packers are young and have virtually none. Whoever emerges from next week’s rematch will be the dark horse to make a run to Miami. They are both solid on offense and defense and have gifted, mistake-free quarterbacks.

Week 17 Winners

  1. Aaron Rodgers
  2. Ryan Grant – He’s been playing solid last 5 weeks now.
  3. Packer D – Woodson (another TD), Matthews (constant pressure)
  4. Favre – Since the 2nd half of last week’s loss to the Bears, he’s been smooth. Question is, does this signifiy that he is calling the plays now or?

Week 17 Losers

  1. Giants team – They started 5-0, and finished 8-8. Last two games they were outscored 44-7 and 41-9. Ouch.

Who the hell is Bell? Steelers 37 Packers 36

Who the hell is Bell? Steelers 37 Packers 36

Uh Oh! A QB finally finds the Packers weakest link..

Here are some quick thoughts on yesterday’s Steelers / Packers game.

  1. Late hits / hits to the head on Rodgers…where are the flags?
  2. Too many drops by the WR’s in the first half (Driver, Jones, Lee)
  3. Leaving worst player on Defense in single coverage on final play of the game is inexcusable (Bell)
  4. This could’ve easily been a blowout, Steelers up 21-14 driving for TD in third quarter…Packer’s hold them to FG. Packers were facing desparate, super bowl champion on 10 days rest.
  5. Steelers had a definite game plan on offense that other teams have yet to do since the Al Harris injury….Pick on Packer’s worst defenders in pass. 3rd and 4th corners (Bush/Bell), simple crossing routes to TE with AJ Hawk covering.
  6. 2nd to last play with 13 seconds left, Cullen Jenkins could have had game ending sack but somehow he sort of just bounced off of Roth.
  7. Holding penatly on Packers with 35 seconds left stopped clock and nullified sack.
  8. Maybe instead of scoring a TD James Jones should have stepped out of bounds at the 1? This would have given Green Bay the ball at the Steelers 1 yard line, down by 2 with 2 minutes left.
  9. Worst instant replay reviews of the season: Matthews sack/strip and long pass to Holmes in 3rd quarter. The first play would have given Green Bay the ball on the Steelers 20 with the game tied 7-7.
  10. Crosby is done mentally. All his kicks go wide right. Instead of missing a 32 yard field goal, what if the Packers go for it on 4th and 2?
  11. Tonight’s Giants at Redskins game is huge for Green Bay. Giants loss plus Green Bay win over Seattle next week clinch’s playoff spot.

Week 15 Winners

  • Ben Rothlisburger (spelling) – Best game by a QB this year
  • Rodgers – Again, played great with no mistakes
  • Clay Matthews – Other than C Jenkins was one of the only defenders making plays
  • Steve Smith – He owns the Vikings

Week 15 Losers

  • Mason Crosby – What happened to you? I don’t get it.
  • Jarret Bush, Josh Bell – Finally the Packers depth at cornerback was exposed
  • Favre / Chilli – They fell flat and now they have to face an angry Bears team at Soldier Field on Monday night.

Week 10 Wrapup – Packers alive!

Week 10 Wrapup - Packers alive!

Rodgers relishes his biggest win

Packers 17 Cowboys 7

So the Packer’s D finally woke up this week! They came with some pressure and actually got to Romo? And the only change was Kampman being out…which probably doesn’t bode well for his future with the Pack. He just isn’t made to be a stand up pass rusher. What sucks is now they won’t get squat for him in trade value. I’d like to see him as the DE on passing downs. They have to figure out a better way to utilize his skills for the rest of the season.

The D looked active and tenacious on Sunday. This is what most packer fans expected to see. It was very strange how quickly the Cowboys abandoned the running game however. Having zero balance to their O made it possible for the Packers to unleash the hounds so to speak.

Vikings 28 Lions 10

This game should have been much worse. The Vikings are starting to look like a scary team to me. Just solid on all counts. Defense, offense, special teams…Really the only thing holding them from attaining first round bye will be themselves. Any major injury to Pat/Kevin Williams, AP, Favre would end their season in my mind.

49ers 10 Bears 6 (Thursday night)

The Bears fall to their former star middle linebacker, Mike Singletary. Cutler with 5 picks. Enough said.

Besides Rodgers, this might be TT's best first round pick

Week 10 Winners

  • Charles Woodson – 9 tackles, INT, Sack and two forced fumbles. What a huge game by a future HOF’er.
  • Packer’s coaches – Dom Capers, Mike McCarthy actually had a good game plan.
  • Aaron Rodgers – Solid game
  • Clay Matthews III – This guy is a future pro bowler, perfect fit for the Packers 3-4.
  • Barnett / Hawk – Looked solid. AJ has played pretty good for four weeks straight now. And Barnett looks to be back.

Week 10 Losers

  • Jay Cutler – 5 picks…and I loved how Deion Sanders was killing him about not seeming to have a care after throwing a pick.
  • Tramon Williams – Anybody who gets the ball stripped by a punter deserves to be here no matter what.

Belichick’s 4th down call

This has been talked (and here) about enough, but this is reminiscent to the 1995 Cowboys/Eagles game when Barry Switzer was heavily criticized for failing a 4th and short on their own 29. That team ended up winning the Super Bowl. I did thoroughly enjoy this episode of the Colts/Pats game also. It never lives down to the hype!

Week 7 Preview – AFC / NFC North Week

Week 7 Preview - AFC / NFC North Week

Packers @ Browns

Like Father...

...Like Son?

In what could turn it to be the first in a series of swine flu bowls, the Packers travel to Cleveland in a must win situation. Hopefully the team is focused as they are one week away from hosting one of the craziest regular season games. I think this might be one of those games where Green Bay comes up firing on all cylinders, taking an early two score lead. Then the Browns fight back with a couple big plays closing the lead before half. Then either a sack/fumble or pick INT gives the Pack a good lead that holds up. Look for huge games by Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Kampmen, Woodsen, and hopefully Ryan Grant. (The guy is like six games overdue)

Things to watch:

  1. Clay Matthews playing in the city is old man starred for over 10 years.
  2. TJ Lang – fucking step up!
  3. Trap game – McCarthy better have his team focused for sunday and not looking ahead to next weeks Vikings/Favre showdown. This has happened before during McCarthy’s tenure

Packers 38-24

Vikings @ Steelers

Another pretty big game for the Vikes. Although it may not have playoff implications since its an AFC game, this has huge Legit-factor for the Vikes. I was hoping for some cold or inclement whether but Favre has lucked out in that regard. This will be fun to watch though its been a few weeks since Favre took some hits and the Steelers can bring it.

Things to watch:

  1. Favre vs Steelers 3-4 D – who cares about AP, I want to see Favre take a beating this game.
  2. Rothlesburger vs Vikings CBs – The Vikings pass D sans Winfield is pretty weak. Look for the Steelers to pass early and often…featuring long passes.
  3. Injury bug, Vikings – that’s all I’m saying

Steelers 29 Vikings 17

Bears @ Bengals

This will be a big test to the Bengals. Can they bounce back and prove to the rest of the NFL that the Bengals are here to stay? They also endured a big injury last week to Odom. Hopefully they can still sustain decent pressure with the four down lineman…like they could earlier against the Pack. This will probably be a damn good game. But I see the Bengals holding on after a Bears miscue or two…

Bengals 16 Bears 13

Lions = BYE
