Until next season starts, Aaron Rodgers will be reliving this play….First play of overtime in a game tied 45-45… reminiscent of an infamous Favre TD throw to Jennings in 2007. Man, if AR completes this pass it would’ve capped off one of the most improbable comebacks in NFL history. Down 31-10 in the 3rd Quarter, AR and the offense stormed back into this game. Neil Rackers would’ve been the biggest choke artist in Arizona, missing a 33 yard field goal at the end of regulation that would have won the game. Rodgers would’ve finished the game with 504 or so passing yards and 6 TDs (one rushing).
Well maybe he’ll get over it this quicker than most fans do but here it is….What if he lays a little air under this throw? Or if, how Troy Aikman points out, what if Jennings flattens his route out a tad? Or if Rodgers realizes he has a little more time to get this out? Was a valiant effort to get back in this game though. The Packers know they have a lot of promise for years to come.

Maybe its sour grapes but looking at this picture it seems pretty clear that this was a facemask. And on 1st down when the Packers were called for holding Rodgers took a shot to the head. Normally that’s a 15 yard personal foul. Anyways, what a crazy game, by far the craziest playoff game I’ve seen. So now the Packers have lost two of the craziest Wild Card games ever. (The last being T.O. and 49ers) Lame.
If Rodgers completes that pass to Jennings on first down he would’ve ended up with 503 yards, 5 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD. What if?
Oh and here’s the play..

Can anyone stop Finley in the red zone?
While they played an uncaring Giants team, the Vikings looked sharp. They will be really tough to beat at home. And Green Bay rolled over Arizona as they sat most of their starters. I think it was a good move by both teams, the Cardinals have playoff experience on their roster while the Packers are young and have virtually none. Whoever emerges from next week’s rematch will be the dark horse to make a run to Miami. They are both solid on offense and defense and have gifted, mistake-free quarterbacks.
Week 17 Winners
- Aaron Rodgers
- Ryan Grant – He’s been playing solid last 5 weeks now.
- Packer D – Woodson (another TD), Matthews (constant pressure)
- Favre – Since the 2nd half of last week’s loss to the Bears, he’s been smooth. Question is, does this signifiy that he is calling the plays now or?
Week 17 Losers
- Giants team – They started 5-0, and finished 8-8. Last two games they were outscored 44-7 and 41-9. Ouch.

Uh Oh! A QB finally finds the Packers weakest link..
Here are some quick thoughts on yesterday’s Steelers / Packers game.
- Late hits / hits to the head on Rodgers…where are the flags?
- Too many drops by the WR’s in the first half (Driver, Jones, Lee)
- Leaving worst player on Defense in single coverage on final play of the game is inexcusable (Bell)
- This could’ve easily been a blowout, Steelers up 21-14 driving for TD in third quarter…Packer’s hold them to FG. Packers were facing desparate, super bowl champion on 10 days rest.
- Steelers had a definite game plan on offense that other teams have yet to do since the Al Harris injury….Pick on Packer’s worst defenders in pass. 3rd and 4th corners (Bush/Bell), simple crossing routes to TE with AJ Hawk covering.
- 2nd to last play with 13 seconds left, Cullen Jenkins could have had game ending sack but somehow he sort of just bounced off of Roth.
- Holding penatly on Packers with 35 seconds left stopped clock and nullified sack.
- Maybe instead of scoring a TD James Jones should have stepped out of bounds at the 1? This would have given Green Bay the ball at the Steelers 1 yard line, down by 2 with 2 minutes left.
- Worst instant replay reviews of the season: Matthews sack/strip and long pass to Holmes in 3rd quarter. The first play would have given Green Bay the ball on the Steelers 20 with the game tied 7-7.
- Crosby is done mentally. All his kicks go wide right. Instead of missing a 32 yard field goal, what if the Packers go for it on 4th and 2?
- Tonight’s Giants at Redskins game is huge for Green Bay. Giants loss plus Green Bay win over Seattle next week clinch’s playoff spot.
Week 15 Winners
- Ben Rothlisburger (spelling) – Best game by a QB this year
- Rodgers – Again, played great with no mistakes
- Clay Matthews – Other than C Jenkins was one of the only defenders making plays
- Steve Smith – He owns the Vikings
Week 15 Losers
- Mason Crosby – What happened to you? I don’t get it.
- Jarret Bush, Josh Bell – Finally the Packers depth at cornerback was exposed
- Favre / Chilli – They fell flat and now they have to face an angry Bears team at Soldier Field on Monday night.

I am a week late on this so its going to be Quarter Three +1. Here are the NFC North standings after 13 games on the board.
Vikings 11-2
Packers 9-4
Bears 5-8
Lions 2-11
My second quarter forecast for Green Bay is off, they have been resurgent since the Tampa loss. It looks like Rodgers and crew have been able to pull off what Favre and Co did in 1993. Let’s hope this continues. Despite the AZ loss, the Vikings have continued to roll. Here are the remaining games..
Vikings – @CAR, @CHI, NYG
Packers – @PITT, SEA, @AZ
Bears – @BAL, MIN, @DET
Lions – AZ, @SF, CHI
The Vikings just need one win here (or one GB loss) to clinch the division. And, unless there’s bad weather in Charlotte this week, I see them doing just that on Sunday. BUT if somehow they stumble, then they would have to either win in the cold in Chicago or at home against the Giants. This game would be meaningless for the Giants unless the Cowboys continue to struggle thus opening up the last wild card spot. (If Green Bay stumbles which means the Vikings win anyway)
So, in essence, the Packers only chance is to win out with the Vikings (and Cowboys) losing out. Which means this Sunday’s games are key. If the last game @AZ is meaningless for the Cardinals then Green Bay’s toughest remaning game is the Steelers. Do they have any life left? Will Poulamulu play? Chances of all this happening and Green Bay miraculously winning the division? Like 100-1. If the Vikings manage to lose to Carolina and the Packers win against Pitt…..Then things get real interesting.
Predictions:
Vikings 13-3 (@CHI)
Packers 11-5 (@AZ, meaningless game for both teams but then Green Bay goes back to AZ for Wild Card!)
Bears 6-10
Lions 2-14

J Finley scores a big TD and gets a quick drink
Some notes on last night’s game, which has left me all wired and crazy…
1. Clay Mathews! Like a dream combo of Kampman and Hawk.
1a. BJ Raji! Like a man among boys out there at times–a slightly less beastly Haloti Ngata.
2. And speaking of Hawk, who knew that he was born to play in a 3-4? I just about pooped myself when he picked Flacco in the fourth quarter. I think we saw his last INT live at KC.
3. Jarrett Bush gave up a big play–good to know there are some absolutes in the NFL world.
4. Another guarantee–a momentum-swinging botch by the GB special teams. Shawn Slocum should hit the road.
5. The hometown refs (or at least the game they called) really favored the Packers last night. Tramon Williams is a total thug, which is a compliment…and also sort of NOT a compliment.
6. John Gruden, with his constant molasses drip of a voice and bottomless bag of Sterling Sharpe references, is growing on me. But the line of the night came from Tirico, when he was told that the game had the second-highest penalty yards ever: “That’s a memory we’ll all cherish.” Or something like that.
7. “Jerry Rice Fumble! Jerry Rice Fumble!”: overheard while Steve Young led the Aaron Rodgers postgame circle jerk.
8. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but the Pack’s D is totally legit. They need a better corner, but the rest of the guys are solid. Happy trails, Kampman–you were one of the good guys.
9. Woodson’s tackle of McGahee on the 1 was a thing of beauty.
10. Rodgers on third down. What an assassin. But his run up the middle was probably my favorite play of the night.
11. Hope you get well for Pack-Bears at noon on Sunday. Thinking of doing up some barbeque or something.
12. Matt Bowen’s scheme analysis of the game is sweet.
Feel better, yo. This team is starting to take over too much of my spare time. Seattle’s looking great.

TT's 2009 draft class is proving to be his best yet
Packers 34 Lions 12
What started as a potential let down game for the Pack, ended in a blowout. Man its strange how good their D is playing lately. They are just playing sound D, haven’t seen blown assignments for like 4-5 weeks. Even the Viking loss they played sound, just got zero for pass rush. Anyways, good to finally have a D that looks legitamately dominant.
Vikings 36 Bears 10
Well the Vikings have really rolled that past 3-4 weeks. They have everything poised to make a playoff run, just depends on if they do the usual Viking choke. Or maybe Favre’s post-season troubles cancel out the Vikings choke ridden history. Anyways Favre is WAY to comfortable in the pocket, starting to look eerily similar to the 95-97 years. And it kills me.
Week 12 Winners
- Rodgers
- Packer Rookies (Raji, Matthews, Jones)
- Woodson – NFC Defensive player of the month
- Favre – It pains me to put him here but have to
Week 12 Losers
- Cutler – What a waste, maybe Shanahan will come to the rescue in 2010? He’s such a loser lately I’m not going any further.

Packers @ Lions
Looks like Stafford and Calvin Johnson are both active. I think today the Packers will get a good test to their defensive backfield sans Al Harris. Hopefully Woodson can limit Johnson and Stafford will limit himself after his separated shoulder on Sunday.
The Packer offense, I believe, will need to be flawless in this game. (IE No turnovers) Ryan Grant needs to continue is solid play and Rodgers has to spread the ball around with the short passes.
If the Packer D is lackadaisical or comes into this game expecting to dominate this game will be a shootout. I think this will show once again Mike McCarthy’s coaching abilities…able to get his team up for a lesser team after two solid wins in a row. Hopefully they aren’t looking ahead to the 12 days off until they face the Ravens on Monday night.
First quarter will tell if they are ready for today. Detroit could go on a mini roll with a win today. Also these Lions-Packers thanksgiving games have always been close, with the Lions usually prevailing, but I think Green Bay will be able to maintain and come away with a win. Detroit gets a couple crazy plays to keep this close, either a long TD pass and/or a kick return for TD.

Rodgers relishes his biggest win
Packers 17 Cowboys 7
So the Packer’s D finally woke up this week! They came with some pressure and actually got to Romo? And the only change was Kampman being out…which probably doesn’t bode well for his future with the Pack. He just isn’t made to be a stand up pass rusher. What sucks is now they won’t get squat for him in trade value. I’d like to see him as the DE on passing downs. They have to figure out a better way to utilize his skills for the rest of the season.
The D looked active and tenacious on Sunday. This is what most packer fans expected to see. It was very strange how quickly the Cowboys abandoned the running game however. Having zero balance to their O made it possible for the Packers to unleash the hounds so to speak.
Vikings 28 Lions 10
This game should have been much worse. The Vikings are starting to look like a scary team to me. Just solid on all counts. Defense, offense, special teams…Really the only thing holding them from attaining first round bye will be themselves. Any major injury to Pat/Kevin Williams, AP, Favre would end their season in my mind.
49ers 10 Bears 6 (Thursday night)
The Bears fall to their former star middle linebacker, Mike Singletary. Cutler with 5 picks. Enough said.
Besides Rodgers, this might be TT's best first round pick
Week 10 Winners
- Charles Woodson – 9 tackles, INT, Sack and two forced fumbles. What a huge game by a future HOF’er.
- Packer’s coaches – Dom Capers, Mike McCarthy actually had a good game plan.
- Aaron Rodgers – Solid game
- Clay Matthews III – This guy is a future pro bowler, perfect fit for the Packers 3-4.
- Barnett / Hawk – Looked solid. AJ has played pretty good for four weeks straight now. And Barnett looks to be back.
Week 10 Losers
- Jay Cutler – 5 picks…and I loved how Deion Sanders was killing him about not seeming to have a care after throwing a pick.
- Tramon Williams – Anybody who gets the ball stripped by a punter deserves to be here no matter what.
Belichick’s 4th down call
This has been talked (and here) about enough, but this is reminiscent to the 1995 Cowboys/Eagles game when Barry Switzer was heavily criticized for failing a 4th and short on their own 29. That team ended up winning the Super Bowl. I did thoroughly enjoy this episode of the Colts/Pats game also. It never lives down to the hype!

In 1993, the Packers were 4-4 as well. I remember thinking that Favre was an awesome talent except he made some severe many mental mistakes. Now in 2009 its a similar scenario. The thing that is really offsetting and making everyone impatient is that Favre is still playing!? And doing well for the hated Vikings. If he was retired I believe expectations would not be sky high for the youngest team in the league.
Even though this is only is 2nd year starting, Rodgers is at a sort of crossroads. If he doesn’t start getting some W’s the critics will really jump all over him. Saying that hes a good stats guy without the ability to win football games singlehandedly. This is something Favre had already proven by mid season in 1993. The biggest difference in my mind is who he had around him. Rodgers has the skills, there is no doubt, he just doesn’t have coaches/veterans around him to really elevate him to the next level.
